From Moderator Hank Nuwer:
I received my State of Alaska Official Election pamphlet on Oct. 6, 2026.
It’s quite informative, I find, although I’ve only had time to thumb through a fraction of its 152 pages.
I liked the “Under One Aurora” cover illustration by artist Amanda Rose Warren.
Here’s my beef.
With local newspapers in financial trouble all over Alaska, why didn’t the Board commission an Alaska paper or printer engaged to produce the pamphlet. After all, it cost $2.21 per copy?
I just don’t get why the Division of Elections decided to print the pamphlet in Portland, Oregon.
And it was mailed from a non-profit permit #4818 — again out of Portland, Oregon.
Why??????
Consider me a puzzled Alaska voter, Alaska Public Offices Commission.
Again, why Portland????
