Greetings from Union City, Indiana. Like the reporter of Alaska Daily, I am venturing into Alaska to make a permanent address change. On January 3, I need to move from Point A (Union City, IN) to Point B (Fairbanks, Alaska through–BRRRRR–Canada by Jeep and van).
If you wish, please track my adventures en route after a brief Christmas vacation. Estimated arrival 1/8 or 1/9/23 in Fairbanks.
December 30, 2022: Visiting a salmon hatchery in Nashua, NH.
December 29, 2022: Off to Boston, Mass. for adventure. We explored the Boston Museum of Fine Arts before heading to the coast of Roxbury on a gorgeous, blue sky day.
December 28, 2022: Traveling to Portsmouth and the Maine Atlantic Ocean seaside to view a lighthouse and enjoy a Nepalese meal of lamb, basil and chili peppers at Durbar Square Restaurant.
December 27, 2022. Continuing to master the Fairbanks newspaper’s operations system in a training course. Was treated to a meal and lessons in maple syrup production and sauna building by members of our Airb&b host’s family.
December 26. Traveling to Laconia, NH lakeside on a day of cold weather. Visited the campus of Plymouth State University where I once put on a hazing education program for students, staff and faculty.
December 25. Gosia and I accepted a kind invitation from Airb & B hosts John and Colleen for a Christmas meal of ham, turkey and all the trimmings, including a Finnish rice pudding for dessert. We sang carols with the 30 guests and Gosia and I entertained with a favorite carol in Polish.
December 24. Uh oh. While visiting a farmers’ market in Woodstock, VT, we heard from our neighbors that our pipes are frozen at our Union City, IN house. The kitchen pipes were replaced 10/17/22. Hoping upon return, the ice will melt without any rupturing. Gulp.
